instances/forms.py and instances/models.py imported values from the
webvirtcloud.settings module itself, which bypasses DJANGO_SETTINGS_MODULE
(settings-dev, test overrides) and runs the module a second time. They
now read django.conf.settings. webvirtcloud/urls.py also loses its
fallback that set REST_FRAMEWORK's schema class at import for settings.py
copies without it: the template sets it, and an older settings.py is
rebuilt from the template when updating.
Settings > Console was one horizontal form, and on a running VM its
Update button was disabled. The owner chose this layout from three
rendered options: the console type on top, then a "VNC connection" card
(listen address, keymap) and a "VNC password" card.
- The password is changed by an action: keep it, generate a new one,
set a new one or remove it. This replaces the Generate and Clear
boxes and their precedence, and an emptied field no longer removes
the password silently. The pane says whether a password is set; the
form no longer carries the password itself.
- A VNC password takes at most 8 bytes: libvirt refuses a longer one
("VNC password is 9 characters long, only 8 permitted"). Generate and
a new VM's random password now make 8 characters; they made 12, which
libvirt 11 refuses. A set password keeps its spaces.
- Every check is in the form, so a refused save changes nothing; before,
a refused password removal still saved the other settings.
- The settings can be saved while the VM runs: they are in the
persistent definition. A line says the running console keeps its
settings until the VM is shut down and started.
- The console type shown and compared is the persistent one; it was the
running VM's, so a pending switch to Serial showed VNC and a later
save could switch again.
- While the saved type is Serial, the VNC settings are not shown or
taken; choosing Serial ignores the posted VNC settings.
- A named CPU model is written without check='none' and with
fallback='forbid': libvirt checks before the start that the host runs
it, and it is not swapped for another model.
- Mode maximum is written as that mode; it was written as a model named
maximum.
- Model names up to 64 characters: the -noTSX and -IBRS models, the ones a
mixed set of hosts needs, were refused at 20.
- The mode or model is checked against the host's capabilities when the VM
is defined, from the page and the API alike; no CPU element (QEMU's
oldest default CPU) is no longer offered.
- The default CPU mode setting offers the modes the new VM dialog has;
no-model and custom, which matched none of them, become host-model.
- The VM's console settings have no "Clear keymap" box: it wrote an empty
keymap attribute into the VM, and choosing Auto already removes the
keymap; that change is logged as "remove console keymap".
- The "Clip viewport" switch was labelled "View Clipboard".
- The full console page no longer fills the password field with "None"
for a VM without a console password.
- On a narrow screen the grouped list hid the User, VCPU and Memory
headings but not the VMs' cells, so values sat under the wrong headings;
the cells now hide with their headings. Memory says MiB.
- A user with the view_instances permission sees each VM's host in the
list, as the host alerts already name them; the host page link stays a
superuser's.
- A flavor's memory and disk are labelled MiB and GiB, and each value is at
least 1, so "4" is no longer saved as a 4 MiB preset by mistake.
The saved console form had no initial values, so every posted field
counted as changed: saving only a password also logged the keymap and the
listen address again, each time. A listen address the form does not list
(set in the XML editor) was not a choice, so the select showed localhost
and a save moved the console there. The form now takes its initial values
from the VM, on the page and on the save, and offers the VM's own address.
The create form and the API took 0 or a negative number for vCPUs,
memory and a new disk's size: the API queued the job (202) and it
failed later in libvirt; the page did the same, its formnovalidate
skipping the browser's min. The create model's fields now refuse
values below 1, so the form shows the error beside its field and the
API answers 400 naming it.
The form also checks the MAC addresses as the API and the job do (one
per NIC at most, each a MAC address), so a bad one is an error on the
form instead of a job that fails.
Closes#175
Settings > Console gets a Console type field. Serial removes the VM's
graphics device (adding a pty console when there is none); VNC adds the
graphics device new VMs get, on localhost, and then applies the form's
VNC fields, so an administrator can open it to all interfaces for a TCP
compute. Serial is offered only while SERIAL_CONSOLE_ENABLED is on.
A VM owner who may manage the console (is_change and is_vnc) could set
its listen address to all interfaces and remove its password: a VNC
console reachable from the network without a password. Checked on a
test host: the owner's form changed the VM's listen address to 0.0.0.0
and then removed the password.
- The listen address field is disabled for users who are not
superusers; a disabled field ignores posted values. They can still
set or change the password and the keymap.
- A console whose persistent definition does not bind it to loopback
(or a Unix socket) only loses its password through an administrator.
A binding the XML does not pin down counts as not local: listen type
network, or no address (the host's default in qemu.conf).
On the test host, the owner's form now leaves the listen address alone
and is refused when it removes the password of a console listening on
0.0.0.0; with the console on localhost the password can be removed.
The new tests fail on the previous code.
SPICE was removed earlier; its leftovers and the console type choice go
too:
- the console settings form, update_console and the backend no longer
offer or change the type; an invalid console form now shows its
errors instead of being ignored;
- the create form, the API serializer and create_instance no longer take
a graphics type, new VMs get VNC; get_graphics_types and the graphics
entries of the domain capabilities are gone;
- migration appsettings.0013 deletes QEMU_CONSOLE_DEFAULT_TYPE;
- a VM defined elsewhere with another graphics type gets "Console type
... is not supported".
The locale catalogs still reference the deleted SPICE templates in
source comments; regenerating them is left to the translation work.
